MY TRAVEL EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST:

Here are the top items of equipment I use to capture all of my shots whilst traveling…

CAMERA – CANON 5D MARK III

I love my Canon! It might not be the lightest camera on the market but the photographs it takes make up for the extra weight whilst traveling.

CAMERA ACCESSORIES

Whilst I am traveling I have a few different lenses with me. I use a standard 24-105mm lens for most of my shots but also alternate between a 50mm lens for landscapes and a 70-300mm lens if I am wanting to capture close up images of nature or animals.

Amongst the crazy long list of camera accessories that are on the market, it is always important to have a Spare Battery, a Camera Carry Bag, and a high capacity SD Card with you at all times.

I also recommend an adaptor to take images straight from your SD card to your iPhone in a matter of seconds. Here is the one I use.

TRIPOD

A tripod is a great investment if you are traveling with your partner and will be wanting to capture couple shots without asking a stranger to take them for you. A high-quality tripod will be able to work in any terrain.

I also have a wireless trigger remote for my camera which helps to take those tripod shots without feeling like you need to run a mile whilst the self-timer is ticking down.

Here is an example of the use of a tripod on my recent trip to Thailand.

WATERPROOF PHONE CASE

This little bag is honestly one of my favorite pieces of equipment. I only recently purchased one for my trip to Thailand but I fell in love with it. I was able to take my phone kayaking, snorkeling and all around the beaches and waterfalls without worrying it would get wet and damaged. It was big enough to fit my iPhone 8+ and still had room to put a bigger phone if needed. I highly recommend this product to anyone traveling, especially if your phone is the only thing you are taking to capture images with!

GO PRO – Why I don’t use one:

I know many people love their trusty Go Pro’s and for a while, I did have one but the one I own was one of the first Go Pro’s so it no longer functions at the speed I would like and I have not been able to justify spending the money on a new one. I find that my waterproof phone case works just as good and means I have the images ready on my phone to edit without needing to carry around another cord.
Let me know if you think I should invest in a new Go Pro!

POLAROID/FILM CAMERA

Now this isn’t for everyone but I love to scrapbook and write a diary of my travels and I find that taking a polaroid with me on my holidays means that I am able to capture and print out an image instantaneously and write down exactly how I am feeling or what I am doing at the time I remember it.

LAPTOP & EDITING SOFTWARE

I do all of my editing from my MacBook Pro. If you are wanting to edit your photographs whilst on the road I highly recommend traveling with a computer. As for the software I use to edit my images, its a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop to create the best image possible.

MOBILE

I’d love to say that when I travel I completely disconnect from the world and all forms of social media, but I would be lying if I said that. My trusty iPhone had basically built me a job from all the software and social media.

POWER BANK

My power bank saved me all throughout Europe, it is definitely a traveler’s essential. We are all living in a digital world and there is nothing more helpful than being able to use google maps if you are lost, or using an app to find an Uber or a Taxi. If you are going to be out exploring all day and are unsure of how long you will go without being near a charging point, I highly recommend a portable charger.

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

An external hard drive is a must-have for any occasion. Not only are my photos saved on my laptop and a Google Drive, I also have a backup on my hard drive in case something unlucky happens.
